WEG has signed a contract with CEMIG to supply 18 compact integrated 138/13.8 kV GIS substations (15 MVA each), which will be remote controlled by a complete protection and control system. The 18 compact substations are to be delivered by 2022 and will be installed in different regions served by CEMIG in the state of Minas Gerais. These substations will give CEMIG’s electrical network improved flexibility while providing reliability to the company’s electrical distribution system, in addition to increasing load capacity and reducing construction time compared to a conventional installation.
The Cemig Group is believed to be the largest integrated company in the energy sector in Brazil; an open capital company controlled by the Government of the State of Minas Gerais and has 127,000 shareholders in 44 countries. Additionally, Cemig owns or has stakes in more than 173 companies and 15 consortia in Brazil.
In Minas Gerais, it services 96% of the concession area and has over 12 million consumers in 805 municipalities. It is also the largest supplier of energy to free customers in the country, with 25% market share. In addition, it is the parent company of Light, a distribution company that serves the city of Rio de Janeiro and other cities in the Rio de Janeiro state.
