TotalEnergies has won a third tender in Belgium, this time in the city of Ghent to install 800 chargepoints by 2025. Type and capacity details of the chargers has not been finalized yet. TotalEnergies will install the chargepoints and will operate them for the next ten years. The chargers will be supplied with 100% renewable electricity generated by offshore wind power in the North Sea off the coast of Belgium.
For the location of the chargers, applications for individuals and professionals have been opened in which they can request for the installation of chargers near their residential locations or workplaces in which installation of chargepoint is not feasible. To optimize the existing network, the City of Ghent has planned to analyse the usage of already installed chargers to better detect the locations where the need of chargers is more.
This is the third city after Brussels and Antwerp where total will be installing chargepoints in Belgium, as TotalEnergies has already won contracts to install and run 3500 chargepoints in the other two cities. This is part of TotalEnergies’ plan to install 150,000 chargepoints in Europe by 2025. Oil and Gas giants have been very active in the EV Charging business in Western European markets. For the past few years, TotalEnergies has significantly increased their business in EV charging landscape by acquiring OEMs and CPOs like G2Mobility and Source London and the company has also portrayed the change in their business through the name change from Total to TotalEnergies.
