Having experience of delivering around 400 shunt compensation devices, GE has achieved another milestone in rapidly growing market of STATCOM. GE has energized three substations (Bolney, Ninfield, and Richborough) of National Grid UK with their dynamic reactive compensator (DRC) having cumulative capacity of 975 Mvar. This project is one the largest STATCOM delivered and made operational in Europe. Awarded in 2016 and completed in late 2019, project has been executed considering the development of HVDC interconnections with Europe. The three substations are already supporting UK-Belgium HVDC interconnection with GE STATCOM technology.
