Ford Starts Shipping 2022 E-Transit Vans To US Customers

Ford is considered to be the go-to automotive brand for many U.S citizens – with a trusted range of commercial vehicles already present within the U.S transportation network, Ford is finally accelerating its electrification strategy for the commercial vehicle sector of U.S. In the same week as the company announced the release of the Ford F-150 Lightning, one of the first truck models present within the U.S capable of harnessing bidirectional charging and Vehicle-2-Grid (V2G) technology, Ford has also begun shipping the long-awaited E-Transit van to U.S. customers. The van, which is currently being manufactured at Ford’s Kansas City assembly plant, is now being shipping across the U.S. There are currently more than 10,000 orders for the E-Transit, contracted from over 300 different businesses within the U.S, including the likes of companies such as Walmart and municipalities such as the city of Orlando, Florida.
The Kansas city assembly plant carries with it a milestone investment amounting to $100 million, and the sole initiative of producing batteries and all-electric vehicles. The plant is one of the biggest all-electric vehicle manufacturing points that Ford currently operates. The E-Transit van is a part of Ford’s $30 billion electrification investment, that contains manufacturing and design initiatives through 2025, including the roll-out of the Mustang Mach-E, and F-150 Lightning and Lightning Pro. The investment is aimed at helping Ford achieve it’s previously announced annual sales goal of 600,000 battery-electric vehicles, which includes 200,000 Mustang Mach-E SUVs and 150,000 F-150 Lightning trucks.
The E-Transit paves the way to realizing the various electrification initiatives taken up by U.S. companies under the EV100 climate agreement, as well as greatly accelerated the electrification of Light Commercial Vehicles in the U.S transportation network. As with the F-150 Lightning, the 2022 E-Transit offers available Pro Power Onboard, which turns it into a mobile generator with up to 2.4 kilowatts of power.
