ABB in 2018 joined hands with ScottishPower and National Grid, UK to provide grid stability in order to increase renewable energy into the transmission network. After 2 years of research and development, ABB has successfully commissioned Hybrid Synchronous Compensator which is combination of STATCOM and Synchronous Condenser. The project has been installed at 275 kV Neilston substation which will ensure grid stability while more and more renewable energy sources will be connected to grid. The project depicts a trend where development of new technologies by mixing existing FACTS has become a fashion by various OEMs in the market.
