70,000 e-buses delivered by BYD worldwide, with a total of 5.5 billion km covered

by Jan 14, 2022

After 10 years of operation, Chinese e-Mobility giant, BYD, has recently announced the delivery of it’s 70,000th e-Bus. With this delivery, BYD has successfully managed to cover a total of 5.5 billion km worldwide. The company’s e-Bus presence within Europe now stands at 2.5% of BYDs global sales. This milestone has now set BYD as not only a competitor in the e-Bus market, but has also allowed the company to begin expansion in other areas of commercial vehicles within Europe.
As of 2021, BYD’s e-Bus segment was the most popular in Europe – however, the company has had a strong market presence with it’s e-Trucks, e-LCVs, and other segments throughout the world. BYD is currently one of the leading EV manufacturers globally, with over 600,000 New Energy Vehicles sold in 2021 alone globally. With such milestones being achieved, BYD’s expansion within the European electric passenger vehicle, truck, and LCV market can now be expected in the coming years. Additionally, BYD may plan on expanding it’s operations with a specialized focus on Europe owing to issues that the company is currently facing within the U.S. and the country’s federal legislation amendments and recommendations. Evidence for accelerated expansion within Europe is shown by the company’s continued and ongoing investment and expansion at BYD’s electric bus factory in Hungary supporting its principle of ‘Made in Europe for Europe’. The expansion is expected to increase production capacity, with the annual output of a single shift rising to 400 electric buses to meet the ever-growing demand for BYD electric buses in Europe. The factory in Hungary facilitates the production of BYD’s complete electric bus range, from the 28-foot model to the 60-foot articulated model. It is from this facility where BYD also manufactures the chassis for single and double-decker electric buses destined for the UK market, with the capability of producing 300 units in a single shift.
With such initiatives in place, BYD’s chances of establishing itself as a strong competitor in the entirety of the European market are expected to increase in the coming years. However, in order to compete with manufacturing giants such as Volvo, Volkswagen, and Daimler AG, BYD may be expected to start venturing into collaborative initiatives, much like the previously stated companies.
